WHRO presents a variety of special events in the Hampton Roads area each year. In partnership with various community organizations, including Ghent Business Association and The Palace Shops, Naro Expanded Cinema, PortFolio Magazine, and the Virginia Arts Festival, WHRO encourages participation in educational and social engagements.
WHRO’s Leadership Circle and Hunter B. Andrews Society members receive exclusive invitations to special lectures and parties featuring national and local public broadcasting talent.

On Tuesday, October 21, at 7:30 PM veteran broadcaster Bob Edwards takes to the stage of the Nauticus for one evening only! WHRV Hearsay host Cathy Lewis will interview Bob as he shares stories from the life of Edward R. Murrow along with Bob's own memorable Morning Edition moments. Located on 21st Street in the historic Ghent area of Norfolk, The Palace Shops will offer live music, an art show and sale by some of the area's best aritsts, plus an opportunity to visit with some of the region's performing arts organizations.

Once again, Amory LeCuyer of Antique Works in Hampton will bring together a team of appraisers who will be able to give you an oral estimate of your artwork, pottery, jewelry and other cherished items.
For a contribution of $100, you will be invited to bring in three items to be appraised by one of our antique experts. Up to two additional items will be allowed for an extra contribution of $25 each. Please note that guns will not be allowed at this event.

An Evening with Garrison Keillor Tuesday, November 25, 2008, Chrysler Hall, 7:30 PM
A Hampton Roads favorite is coming back... WHRV presents An Evening with Garrison Keillor
The charming, witty, and always entertaining writer and humorist will take the stage for an intimate one night only engagement. Best known for his popular radio show, “A Prairie Home Companion,” Keillor, true to his radio form, can be expected to spit out some of the most hilarious anecdotes about growing up in the American Midwest, read several stories from his collections about Lake Wobegon, sing a couple of his favorite songs, and answer audience questions about his work. With his wonderful dry sense of humor, Keillor captivates audiences as he delivers his stories with class, charisma, and wisdom.
WHRV has a limited number of gold circle seating tickets available for purchase at $200 a pair and they’ll go fast! Proceeds from the evening benefit the programs and services of WHRV 89.5FM, which airs “A Prairie Home Companion” on Saturdays at 6 PM and Sundays at 10 AM.
