Childhood Poverty and Homelessness

Governor Tim Kaine announced Thursday the creation of a poverty reduction task force to identify challenges and opportunities to help lift children and families out of poverty. With the economy just now hitting bottom experts expect that the number of people living in poverty, and seeking assistance, will continue to rise. The nearly 13 percent of Virginia's children living in poverty are of special concern. Today our guest host Barbara Hamm Lee will talk with local service providers and national researchers about the ways in which poverty impacts children. Guests include Thaler McCormick, Executive Director of ForKids, Kinsey Alden Dinan, Senior Policy Associate with The National Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP) and John Morgan, Executive Director of Voices for Virginia’s Children.
