Segment A: A Fleeting Chance?
Could Hampton Roads lose thousands of sailors and a Norfolk-based ship to Florida? Norfolk currently is home to four nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, which equates to about 225 million dollars annually to the Hampton Roads economy. But as the Navy considers the future of the Mayport Naval Station in Florida there is talk of a transfer. We’ll talk about that issue and other military matters today on HearSay.
Segment B: A Sea of Naval History
Cathy’s guest, historian George Daughan, says the great battles of the early American Republic cannot be fully understood without taking the sea into account. In his new book, IF BY SEA: The Forging of the American Navy – From the Revolution to the War of 1812 Daughan offers a definitive account of how our naval force came into being. IF BY SEA also shows how the Revolutionary War fleet ultimately led to the creation of the U.S. Navy.

Segment A: Skin Deep: Tattoos
Did you know that 10 percent of Americans now have at least one tattoo? While the skin art has lost its taboo status amongst the status quo, having a tattoo can still be seen as an act of rebellion. We'll talk about American tattoo culture and the history behind body art today on HearSay.
Segment B: Author Nancy Redd
Our guest is former Miss Virginia, Nancy Redd. She is the author of the new book, Body Drama: Real Girls, Real Bodies, Real Issues, Real Answers. Redd says she wrote the book she wished she had growing up female in America to help her deal with her body. She confronts insecurities head-on, sharing the things she worried about as a teenager, from how much she weighed to how much she sweated, and explores the issues that other girls struggle with — their “body drama.”
