SPECIAL HOLIDAY PROGRAMMING: "American Abroad-The Israeli Palestinian Conflict and the Stability of the Middle East"
The Iraq Study Group, and many people around the world, believe that serious efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are necessary in order to address the myriad of problems and growing instability across the Middle East today.  Others disagree, and believe that the importance of the conflict is exaggerated and exploited by regimes that seek to distract their peoples from the absence of democracy in the region, and mistakes of their own making.  On the next America Abroad, a look at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and how it fuels extremism and violence in the Middle East.

SEGMENT A: VOICES FROM WITHIN THE VEIL
Norfolk State University is assembling noted scholars, community leaders and political practitioners to discuss the contrasting democratic images of early Jamestown and the larger subject of evolving concepts of democracy, political participation, and civil rights.  We'll talk about the experiences of African Americans in America and how laws and customs have defined them separately from the majority populace on today's HearSay.

SEGMENT B: GRANDPARENTS: "The New Surrogates"
It's a growing trend in today's families - Grandparents becoming Parents.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, over the last 25 years, the number of children being raised by someone other than a parent has increased dramatically.  We'll talk about the obstacles these surrogates face, like the inability to place the children on their health insurance policies, obtain affordable housing, and enroll the children in school, as they work to keep the family together.

GARDENING
February may be our shortest month, but it can seem unbearably long for those who can't wait to get their hands dirty again.  While you wait for Spring, give us a call to talk about caring for houseplants and planning the garden.  Join Cathy and our experts: York County Extension Agent Jim Orband and Daily Press Gardening and Home columnist Kathy Van Mullekom for our monthly gardeningshow.  We'll also talk with award-winning horticultural writer Amy Stewart about her new book, "FLOWER CONFIDENTIAL: The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful in the Business of Flowers." It's an enlightening examination of the cut-flower business that takes readers inside the flower trade; from the hybridizers, who create new varieties in the laboratory, to the growers, who produce flowers by the millions.
