Administrative Assistant for Virtual Virginia

This position is primarily responsible for assisting the Director of Educational Technology with administrative activities.  It provides support for all departmental functions that include Virtual Virginia and the Office of Educational Technology (OET) within the Virginia Department of Education in Richmond, Virginia.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years office experience required that includes at least 3 years of effective administrative experience in supporting an executive level position
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to schedule, coordinate, and implement activities with numerous details and multiple deadlines; ability to perform multiple tasks and manage competing priorities under pressure
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work with attention to detail and minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated dependability, integrity, discretion, and independent, mature judgment; must maintain and protect confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel with a working knowledge of the Internet.

Senior Application Developer

The Sr. Application Developer will assume a development lead role to design/enhance and implement an enterprise-class web-based .NET application for our rich media management system.

Need solid C#, JavaScript, XML (SOAP, REST), SQL and strong web development skills and strong database experience.

Job Description:

Design, Develop, acquire, integrate, test, maintain and support software to meet project requirements.

Meet with internal/external customers to determine application requirements and recommend solutions.

Generate high-quality project documentation, such as project plans, requirements and design documents, test plans, etc.

Communicate status of assignments accurately to management
Develop strong working relationships with vendor, clients, and team members.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of hands on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) development experience with strong skills in C#, JavaScript, and Web Services such as XML (SOAP, REST).
  • Minimum 4 years experience in MS SQL Solid experience performing all tasks related to integrating with MS SQL Server database (queries, table creation, views, stored procedures, and triggers).
  • Knowledge of multiple application tiers, including user interface, business logic, and database.
  • BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.

Working knowledge of Virage IDOL server technology is a plus.

Virtual Virginia e-Learning Support Supervisor

Position Description
The e-Learning Support Supervisor manages and directs all Virtual Virginia technology and media services and projects. This position is to provide technical leadership and support for projects, products, and applications across Virtual Virginia with an emphasis on online learning courses. This position monitors and initiates the daily workflow of the help desk and registration desk; ensures a high level of customer service; manages all multimedia projects; oversees the student information system; loads and maintains courses and user accounts in course management software; performs regularly scheduled testing and review of products/applications; monitors servers on an on-call basis; provides training for instructors, students, and school personnel; coordinates program mass communications; and maintains the Web presence of the online learning portal and the program Web site.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manages all technical support aspects for Virtual Virginia including the help desk services, support technicians, and documentation.
  • Supervises support team members by coordinating, assigning, and monitoring task distribution, providing mentoring and training, and evaluating progress.
  • Provides support to all participating schools and school personnel including virtual and face-to-face assistance.
  • Provides support to parent auditors and manages auditor request/import process.
  • Establishes and maintains the student information system including the registration process, user accounts (students, mentors, teachers, administrators), and maintains current student records.
  • Establishes and maintains the learning management system including user accounts, course enrollments, upgrades, testing and coordinating system maintenance.
  • Coordinates creation and user enrollments of course shells in course management system (instructional, master copies, professional development, clubs/honors societies, etc.).
  • Coordinates the creation and implementation of semester and final grade processes.
  • Manages telecommunication accounts for Virtual Virginia personnel.
  • Oversees the creation and distribution of multimedia resources utilized for instruction.
  • Distributes Virtual Virginia equipment and manages the inventory.
  • Assures that the Virtual Virginia Web site content is current and accurate.
  • Maintains course structure, delivery, and functionality required by Virtual Virginia.
  • Serves as the lead user for the course management software offering assistance to Virtual Virginia personnel as needed.
  • Negotiates contracts with vendors as required for departmental operations and/or educational resources in coordination with the Virtual Virginia administrative team.
  • Provides technical support as needed.
  • Assists with the successful planning, development, and delivery of professional development activities.
  • Coordinates program mass communications via e-mail or mail.
  • Researches current trends with distance learning.
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by his/her supervisor.

Education
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years experience in the information and/or educational technology field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master’s degree preferred. Experience with educational institutions and distance learning course management software is required. Experience with customer service and technical troubleshooting support of users is required.

WHRO INTERNSHIP PROGRAM- WHRO offers an internship program to juniors and seniors enrolled in a college or similar curriculum to which the internship applies. The purpose is to allow qualified and interested students an opportunity to gain practical experience in a career setting. These experiences can allow students to combine their educational pursuits with day-to-day operations of the communications and broadcasting industry. While some internships can be used for college credit, it is not mandatory.

Individuals may apply in the same way they would apply for a job. An internship application, resume and cover letter are required. The appropriate department head to determine eligibility for the internship will then interview the individuals.

WHRO is offering internship positions with the award winning service Defenestration.  It isn’t a radio program, or a TV program, or even a podcast.  It’s a compilation of videos, audio recordings, paintings, poetry, sculpture, weaving - any creative endeavor that can be shared with visitors to our website will find a place on defenestration.  In short, defenestration is an opportunity to share an artist’s creativity with whro.org’s many visitors – and a chance for the public to see and hear the different artistic perspectives of members of the community.  It’s a continuous 24/7 variety show…

Applicants should have a keen interest in local music and arts.

Our internships are unpaid; however, students can earn college credits based on approval of the college or university.

Goals

Research/Marketing
To research and gather information on Hampton Roads local artist to include, musicians, bands, painters, sculptors, comedians, photographers, poets, etc.
Populate a central database with names, contact info, biographies, photos, documents, digital copies of art, etc.
Contact the artists and ask for input to the Defenestration service and provide assistance as needed to include collecting material and posting it
Interview local artists via video and audio for inclusion on the media player and artist galleries.

Development
Flash and web developers
Assist in design and development of a more robust and exciting web presence

Producer
Create shows using audio and video collected for inclusion in the online stream and artist galleries.
Interview local artists via video and audio for inclusion on the media player and artist galleries.
