What causes major weather phenomena like tornadoes, hurricanes, thunderstorms and lightning? How do meteorologists forecast the weather? Learn how to read weather maps, experiment with different types of weather instruments, discuss the water cycle, and find out how difficult it is to predict the weather. (Grades 3-5)

This tour encourages students to learn about the water cycle as they investigate Lake Whitehurst and the Garden’s many ponds. Using a hand lens, students will explore a pond and look for plants and creatures that live in and around the water.

Students simulate the movement of water in, around, and through our Earth in the Incredible Journey activity. They predict where they'll travel as drops of water; then mark their destinations during the journey. Afterwards, the class checks the accuracy of their predictions.
