Capstone Introduction: Planning a Technology Portfolio- 30hr

This course will start you on a path toward ISTE NETS-T proficiency. Through readings, examination of your own teaching practices and the ISTE NETS-T, and exploration of available technologies and sample technology-integration projects, you will increase your understanding of and comfort with the NETS-T and their practical applications in the classroom. This course will empower you to:
- become familiar with NETS.T and have specific strategies for applying these standards in your classroom;
- become familiar with a range of technology tools and have specific ideas for incorporating them into your teaching practices to satisfy NETS-T;
- developed a plan for a project to address the NETS-T in their classroom, with the teacher as the primary user of technology;
- develop a plan for a project to address NETS-T in your classroom, empowering students to learn through technology; and
- become familiar with the goals and requirements of the Capstone I and II courses.
Note: Learners must pass the Capstone Introduction before moving on to Capstone I. The Capstone Introduction is 6 weeks long and does not require access to students. Capstone I and Capstone II are 15 weeks long each, and both require access to students.

Designing Technology Infused Project-Based Learning Experiences - 3 graduate credits

4.5 CEUs / 3 graduate credits - The course will consist of an introduction to Project-Based Learning (PBL), associated terminology, computer-based technologies and resources that can be used to support the PBL approach to curriculum. The course will define a general problem-solving process that participants will employ in working with the curriculum. Strategies for utilizing the Internet and other technology-based resources in instruction and ethical / managerial issues associated with using PBL and computer technology with students will be explored. Students will learn to employ search techniques to locate information that will assist them in their study and presentation of Project-Based Learning. Online Facilitator Training I: Mastering The Skills Of Online Teaching - 45hr

Online facilitators take on many important roles and, thus, wear different managerial, technical, social, and pedagogical hats. Effective facilitators must know how to provide formative feedback, offer technical guidance, foster community, and communicate 'from the side' in a way that encourages learners to construct knowledge together. This course will formally introduce you to those roles and provide you with the opportunity to try on and practice wearing several of these hats. Through research-based articles and readings, discussions, collaborative projects, and other interactive experiences, you will have multiple opportunities to build and master online facilitation skills. A simulation environment (Facilitator Training Lab) will give you an opportunity to practice specific facilitator skills. To synthesize all your learning, you will create a case study based on the experiences of a hypothetical online facilitator as your final project.
